Lao Community Cultural Center will award scholarship to Lao American students, college bound, High School Graduates Class of 2013. If you are interested please submit application and essay by June 21, 2013.
LCCC Scholarship Program
The Lao Community Cultural Center (LCCC) has initiated for the first time this year a scholarship program for young Lao Americans attending schools in San Diego County. We have a small fund of $2,500 to offer to qualified Lao American high school seniors, who plan to go to college after graduation and aspire to achieve high career goals. We encourage all Lao American high school seniors, who meet the criteria below, to apply.
Criteria. Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply.
1. High school seniors of Lao descent with a plan to attend college/university. (required)
2. Must have a GPA of 3.30 point and higher. (60%)
3. Community involvement to be described in the essay. You have an advantage if you have participated in community involvement activities but it is not required. (20%)
4. Essay (20%)
a. Write about: 1) community involvement activities; 2) school extra-curricular activities; 3) what colleges the candidate has applied for admission and has been accepted; 4) ideas about the candidate’s interests or future plan for community involvement. (70%)
b. Writing skills: 1) organization; 2) grammar and writing conventions (punctuations, etc.); 3) ability to express ideas effectively and clearly for readers to understand easily. (30%)
5. Students attending San Diego County School Districts or San Diego private schools are eligible to apply. (required)
The candidates applying for the scholarship are required to mail a copy of their transcripts (GPA) together with the application to LCCC.
Scholarship funds: $2,500
First award: $1,200
Second award: $800
Third award: $500
The application consists of:
a) a cover letter addressed to the Scholarship Program Committee,
b) an essay, not to exceed three (3) pages in length, using a12 point font and single line spacing,
c) Application deadline: June 21, 2013. The application must be sent by two means, a) by email to be sent on 6/21/13, at the latest, at: email@example.com, and b) a hard copy by slow mail (post marked on 6/21/13) to: LCCC, Scholarship Program Committee, P.O. Box 740853, San Diego, CA 92174.

MISS LAO NEW YEAR CONTESTANTS 2012
Our program includes Angel of Mercy Parade (Nang SangKhan), cultural entertainment, art exhibits, and traditional Southeast Asian food vendors. You’ll also enjoy international and Lao classical dances, live bands, sports tournament-Ping pong and Rattan Ball (Kataw) competition and experience the ceremonial Lao New Year’s rites of passage. We invite you to support our efforts by participating in this very important festival as we enter into the year 2555 B.E. and crown Miss Lao New Year.
This festival will provide an opportunity for the Lao American community to promote a deeper understanding of our traditions and people, present a uniquely Lao American identity, and to share our rich cultural heritage.
Admission fee: $3.00 at the Market Creek Plaza (Day time); $25 for the evening gala at the Jacobs Center Celebration Hall. The Lao legendary Composer/Songwriter, Voradeth Ditthavong will be performing at the event.
